NEWSLETTER - JUNE 2009

It is time for another newsletter from your favourite glass gallery.

Over the last six weeks we have held two very successful exhibitions both.  “Southern Lights” featured the wonderful work of South Australian glass artists, Catherine Aldrete-Morris, Nicole Ayliffe, Amanda Dziedzic, Tegan Empson, Wendy Fairclough, Brenden Scott French, Tim Shaw and Mark Thiele.     This exhibition was followed by a two week solo show of the works of the talented Amanda Louden.

Amanda, over the years, has acquired a large following and her work is collected worldwide.  If you haven’t seen Amanda’s current exhibition do hurry because it is due to end soon.

It is indeed re-assuring to see that in the days preceding the wonderful news that Australia is not in a recession, and when all the prognostications that the financial end of the world is nigh, glass collectors from near and far kept their heads.

Kirra Galleries commissioned artists, George Aslanis and Bethany Wheeler to create this coloured glass casting which now adorns the entrance to the Gallery.

We refuse to participate in a recession

We were right – and Australia took note!

On Thursday 11 June 2009 we are opening an exhibition, “Winter Lights” as part of our participation in Federation Square’s “The Light in Winter” festival.

For us this will be something totally new – the exhibition space will be dimmed and filled with light emitting works by Christian Arnold, Tim Bassett and others.  Our normally bright exhibition gallery will be changed into a glowing winter wonderland.

Please come along to the opening – our retail gallery will be illuminated enabling us to see the normal fare of Kirra finger food and the drinks being served to soothe our souls.

NICK MOUNT’S EXHIBITION

This unique ‘Winter Lights’ Exhibition will be glowing until 12 July 2009, after which we are delighted to be opening Nick Mount’s first solo Melbourne exhibition in many years - opening on 16 July 2009.

As a sneak preview to the invitation, following are the words which so succinctly describe Nick, the artist, family man and pre-eminent glass artist:

Nick Mount n 1.husband 2.father 3.internationally renowned glass artist 4.mentor 5.teacher

Nick is recognised as one of the founding figures of the Australian studio glass movement since the 1970s, both as an exponent of the creative possibilities of hot glass and as a mentor and inspiration to emerging glass artists.  In a career spanning three decades his works have combined virtuoso techniques with a keen instinct for design with his own distinctive sculptural approach.   Nick is recognised for his commissions, teaching, exhibitions in Australia, Europe, the United States and Japan and his work is represented in many major public and private collections.
